Chipursan is a long, narrow valley that runs west from the Karakoram Highway near Sost towards the Wakhan corridor of Afghanistan. The villages along it, including Reshit, are Wakhi, and the valley is far less visited than the main road. There is a lake at Yishkuk and trekking routes lead further up towards the border passes.

The jeep road is rough and cut by streams in the early summer. Plan at least a night in the valley, and go only with a driver who knows the road.

## Seasons in Gilgit-Baltistan

- **Spring (March to April):** Apricot and cherry blossom in the lower valleys, mostly in April. The higher villages are still cold and the high passes are closed.

- **Autumn (October to November):** Golden leaves in the orchards and the clearest light of the year. Nights are cold and the first snow reaches the high valleys in November.
- **Winter (December to February):** Cold and quiet. Hunza and Gilgit stay reachable by road, but the high valleys and passes are closed.
