# Shishkat, Gilgit-Baltistan

> Shishkat sits at the head of Attabad Lake and is the first village of Gojal for most visitors. It was one of the villages hardest hit by the 2010 landslide and has been rebuilt along the new shore.

- **Type:** Village
- **Province or region:** Gilgit-Baltistan
- **Part of:** Gojal (https://hunzaexplorer.com/destinations/gilgit-baltistan/hunza-valley/gojal)
- **Best season:** May to November

Shishkat is where the road enters Gojal. Part of the village was lost under the water when the landslide of 2010 blocked the river, and the people who lived here had to rebuild higher up the slope. Today it is a calm place of orchards and stone houses along the lake edge, with a few tea houses.

Most visitors pass through on the way to Gulmit and Passu, but it is worth a stop for tea and a look at the lake from the water's edge.

## Seasons in Gilgit-Baltistan

- **Spring (March to April):** Apricot and cherry blossom in the lower valleys, mostly in April. The higher villages are still cold and the high passes are closed.
- **Summer (May to September):** The main season. Every valley is open, and this is the time for trekking, Deosai, the Khunjerab Pass and the K2 approach.
- **Autumn (October to November):** Golden leaves in the orchards and the clearest light of the year. Nights are cold and the first snow reaches the high valleys in November.
- **Winter (December to February):** Cold and quiet. Hunza and Gilgit stay reachable by road, but the high valleys and passes are closed.
