> Peshawar has been a trading city for well over two thousand years, with the Qissa Khwani Bazaar, Mughal mosques and the finest Gandhara collection in Pakistan.

The city sits at the foot of the Khyber Pass and has been a gateway between Central Asia and India for a very long time. The old town is a maze of bazaars and wooden-balconied houses. The Mahabat Khan Mosque, built in the 17th century, is the most elegant of the Mughal buildings, and the Peshawar Museum holds a large Gandhara collection, including the Buddha figures that make up the core of the region's art.

Excursions towards the Khyber Pass itself need official permission, which we arrange where possible. Plan to eat well: the grilled meats of Namak Mandi are famous.
