Gwadar sits on a narrow headland shaped like a hammerhead. It belonged to Oman until 1958, and has quiet beaches, fishing boats and clear sunsets.
Gwadar was bought by Pakistan from the Sultan of Oman in 1958. It is a small town, with a fish market, an old fort and narrow beaches on either side of the headland. A large port is being developed to the east, but the older town remains calm. Plan to arrive by the coastal highway from Karachi, or fly from Karachi or Islamabad.
