Hingol and the Makran Coast

A desert coast of strange rock formations and empty beaches

The Makran Coastal Highway runs through Hingol National Park, past Kund Malir beach, the Princess of Hope rock formation and mud volcanoes.

Hingol is the largest national park in Pakistan, extending from the coast into rocky, dry hills. The highway, opened in 2004, passes along it. Kund Malir has a wide empty beach. Further on, wind and water have carved the sandstone into shapes called the Princess of Hope and the Sphinx. Hinglaj Mata, a Hindu shrine in a gorge, is a major pilgrimage place in April.

Summers are fiercely hot. Go from October to March, and hire a local driver who knows the road.
