Ghulkin is an old village of narrow lanes and stone houses at the foot of the Ghulkin Glacier, a short walk from Gulmit, and the quietest of the villages along this stretch of the road.
Ghulkin is a few minutes' walk from the highway and feels removed from it. The houses are built of stone and wood, the lanes are narrow, and water runs in channels past every doorway. The glacier descends from the mountains right above the village, and a short, steep walk takes you to the ice.
It is also the usual starting point for the walk to Borith Lake, which lies between Ghulkin and Passu.
