Shishkat

The first village of Gojal, at the head of Attabad Lake

Shishkat sits at the head of Attabad Lake and is the first village of Gojal for most visitors. It was one of the villages hardest hit by the 2010 landslide and has been rebuilt along the new shore.

Shishkat is where the road enters Gojal. Part of the village was lost under the water when the landslide of 2010 blocked the river, and the people who lived here had to rebuild higher up the slope. Today it is a calm place of orchards and stone houses along the lake edge, with a few tea houses.

Most visitors pass through on the way to Gulmit and Passu, but it is worth a stop for tea and a look at the lake from the water's edge.
