Ranikot Fort

The Great Wall of Sindh, with walls over 25 kilometres long

Ranikot is a vast fort in the Kirthar foothills, built by the Talpur rulers in the early 1800s, with walls that run for more than 25 kilometres.

Ranikot is sometimes called the Great Wall of Sindh. The fort lies about 90 kilometres north of Karachi, and the walls follow the ridges of the hills in a great loop. Inside are the remains of palaces, a mosque and several smaller forts. Most of it is quiet. Allow a long day from Karachi or from Hyderabad.

Highlights

  • The Sann Gate
  • The long ridge-top walls
  • The palaces inside
